AZ/UT Road Trip Day 1- Grand Canyon Sunset

The first stop of our Arizona-Utah road trip was the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is by far is the most visited side of the Canyon. That’s because it is the most accessible and provides the most amenities. As with all sides of the Canyon, the South Rim features astounding views of what took Mother Nature millions and millions of years to create. The post about our visit to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon can be seen here.

We were watching these puffy clouds all the way on our flight to Phoenix.

We rent a car at the Phoenix airport and hit the road to Yavapai Lodge at Grand Canyon.

The drive, mostly on I-17, took around 3.5 hours. Here, we just left Phoenix in the picture below. Many cacti grow around the Phoenix area.

Later on the road, the view changed to bare rocky hills.

The first time I ever saw a limousine made by Hummer. In the words of “The Donald” It was huge.

Here we started seeing some trees along the road.

Here we are passing the Flagstaff area. It doesn’t look like Arizona, does it?

And, finally, we arrive at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, just in time for the sunset.

After checking in at the Yavapai lodge hotel, we drove to one of the view points and took a walk on the Geology Timeline trail for the best sunset views.

We were walking along the pass enjoying the incredible sunset in the one of the the world’s Seven Wonders, the Grand Canyon, and taking a bunch of pictures. Here are some of them to convey some part of this canyon’s beauty during the sunset. It should definitely be on everyone’s bucket list.

It was dark when we got to the Yavapai Lodge Restaurant for dinner.

A food-court style restaurant offers American comfort food in the main lodge. It made the line go quickly having several computers/ordering kiosks available for customers to place their orders. I thought that was a great idea.

We were tired by the time we got to our hotel room. We set up the clock to wake us up early for the sunrise and went to bed. The Yavapai Lodge is a nice hotel and close to the Grand Canyon’s main view points. I definitely recommend this hotel for staying in Grand Canyon.
