Valentine’s Day 2018

This year we celebrated Valentine’s Day at Portner Brehouse, Brewery Restaurant & Craft Beer Test Kitchen, after work. This restaurant was just recently opened. It has some interesting menu items of classic and contemporary German-American cuisine. The settings resemble a comfy brewpub featuring local craft beers and an elevated bar menu in a relaxed atmosphere.

4th of July Firewarks in DC

This year’s 4th of July we celebrated at the National Mall. When we started living in the DC metro area, the first 3 years we enjoyed the Independence Day fireworks in Washington, DC. Then, we explored various options and places to celebrate the 4th of July and view other fireworks. We’ve been to the party at the mansion in Maryland, on the USS Constellation historic ship in Baltimore and numerous times on the beach among others. Here are a couple posts of our Independence Day celebration at Mount Vernon and at Virginia Beach, but there is nothing more impressive than the fireworks at the National Mall.

Valentine’s Day

The morning on Valentine’s Day held a surprise for me. I walked into the leaving room and had a bunch of balloons raining down on me. Just like during a New Year’s Eve Celebration. It was so nice and sweet of my husband! He knows how much I enjoy balloons like that. 🙂

Georgetown Holiday Lights

Because of such a warm December this year, we did a few Holiday lights walks in the DC area. We saw the National Christmas Tree, the festive Old Town Alexandria and Georgetown, DC’s oldest and wealthiest neighborhood. Georgetown is D.C.’s top high-end shopping destination with numerous dining choices and it is a lively part of town. At night, particularly on weekends, revelers along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue eat, drink, and make merry.

Dave and I decided that it would be a perfect neighborhood to spend an evening during the holidays. Besides, there was an art event, Georgetown GLOW—the popular holiday celebration featuring outdoor public light-art installations that invite visitors to “re-imagine the season of light”. And we intended to see the new Ice Skating Rink at the Washington Harbor. Here is the picture of the festive settings near the Ice Skating Rink area.

Getting into Holiday Spirit

The Holiday Season has officially started. The President lighted the National Christmas Tree this Thursday near White House. The streets, offices and other venues are decorated and lighted for the Holidays. Various Holiday events are happening in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. Dave and I decided to get into holiday spirit by visiting some of these events. We have already visited ICE! at the National Harbor. This time we planned to watch the annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights at the Potomac Riverfront.

It was a beautiful day; the parade is supposed to start in the evening, so we decided at the last minute to visit the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade, which was just started. It took no time for us to drive to Old Town Alexandria, but after trying to find any possible parking there, we realized that our spontaneous decision wasn’t that good. The Parade was almost over, we finally were able to park our car at the nearest Metro station after someone just pulled out. We were lucky. 🙂 So, we gave up on the parade and decided to take a walk on the beautifully decorated King Street to the Riverfront, have lunch there, visit the Torpedo Factory and then watch the Boat Parade of Lights. We did enjoy our walk in Old Town Alexandria. Here is a picture of the cozy King Street.

Thanksgiving 2015!

Our Thanksgiving Day this year was eventful. 🙂 Dave and I started our day with the 90-minute Burn the Bird: Thanksgiving Hot Flow yoga workshop at Honest Soul Yoga (HSY). HSY is a Power Yoga studio in the Kingstowne area of Alexandria Virginia, which offers a variety of yoga classes every week.

The workshop was very well organized, studio was hot enough, so we felt like we accomplished something before indulging ourselves with the Turkey dinner. 🙂 We felt good about donating the workshop fees with all proceeds to the USO-Metro, a nonprofit organization dedicated to “serving those who serve, and their families” in Washington D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. Here is our group picture right after the workshop.

Grillin’ & Chillin’ on Labor Day

Tradition dictates that food cooked on an open flame is synonymous with summer holidays. Labor Day is the last holiday of the summer and is the second largest cookout event of the year in the United States.
