Valentine’s Day 2018

This year we celebrated Valentine’s Day at Portner Brehouse, Brewery Restaurant & Craft Beer Test Kitchen, after work. This restaurant was just recently opened. It has some interesting menu items of classic and contemporary German-American cuisine. The settings resemble a comfy brewpub featuring local craft beers and an elevated bar menu in a relaxed atmosphere.

The restaurant is named after Robert Portner, who emigrated from Westphalia, Germany and opened the brewery’s doors in Alexandria, Virginia in 1869. The company distributed its flagship TIVOLI Hofbrau Pilsner from Washington D.C. to Florida. (TIVOLI is I LOV IT spelled backwards).

The beer samples consisted of a variety of house craft beers, including the Valentine’s Day special, Sweetheart Raspberry Lager. It was a pretty pink! Balanced, easy, and not too light, with a pleasantly light raspberry note.

At home, we had dessert, my favorite candies, flowers and cards. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone out there!
