Our Bahamas Cruise – Day 1

Although Dave and I are not huge fans of cruises, this cruise was a nice little getaway. I am not saying that cruises are not fun, it is just you have to rush back to the ship in every port and onboard activities get a little boring after a while, but it is nice to take a cruise once in a while. Because of the time limitation, this time we chose a 4-day Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral on Carnival Sensation, a smaller and older Carnival ship, but recently renovated and very clean.

At that time, DC was full of snow and it was chillier than usual in Florida. After 1.5 hour drive to Port Canaveral, Dave, Toni and I boarded the ship around 1 P.M. We unpacked, had lunch and went to explore the ship.

Passing the Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. Nice ship.

We went to the ship atrium to pick up our shore excursions. Our ship planned to stop at Freeport and Nassau. The last day is supposed to be “The Fun Day at the Sea”. We bought an excursion for each port: The Bahamas Jeep Adventure for Freeport and the Atlantis Aquaventure Full Day with Lunch for Nassau.

Carnival Cruise Lines has been rolling out Seuss at Sea, with characters from the beloved books and movies taking part in activities on most ships, including the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, which we planned to attend on our Day at Sea. The characters from Cat in the Hat were roaming the ship after The Seuss-a-palooza Parade, where guests could join Dr. Seuss characters in a swirly conga line along the Promenade. Here is Sam-I-Am.

Here, Cat in the Hat, Sam I Am & Thing 1 and Thing 2 are part of a more formal portrait session for guests with whimsical backdrops – but still having a lot of fun in the process!

We walked around the ship, looked at the jogging path and visited some shops among other things. Passing through the Art Gallery a few times, we noticed some beautiful paintings.

Came back to our room and met our first towel elephant on this cruise. 🙂 These towel animals are such a nice little detail, which always makes me smile.

Dinner was delightful. Food was very tasty and our girls (tablemates) were awesome!
